Marla and Daniel recently purchased their first home together. This home had a great location, a treasured history, a perfect yard to accommodate Daniel’s love of gardening and growing his own food, as well as ideal layout for lifestyle. The history of the home came along with a very outdated kitchen that had some less than ideal, functional limitations and late 1970’s finishes.
Preparing thoughtful meals and homemade teas is a very big deal to Marla and Daniel. When we first met them they expressed their enthusiasm to have a more functional kitchen, conducive to making freshly handmade tortillas and hosting friends and family. Their passion for growing their own food and preparing it together in a spacious kitchen that had appliances that would assist was evident.
When we walked in, one of the first things they hoped to address was a corner cabinet and refrigerator space that was difficult to access and didn’t add much storage value nor usable countertop space. We suggested shifting that to one wall rather than a corner and install a pantry for storage and cabinets above a counter depth refrigerator to make the back kitchen exit have more room.
As we continued on the walk through, we noticed the drop down ceiling that divided the kitchen from the “eat-in” area. We suggested that we knock that out and extend the cabinets farther in the kitchen to offer more working space for food prep as well as storage and open the visibility from the living room into the kitchen. We also extended the flooring to be continuous throughout the entire kitchen rather than separated at the drop down ceiling. Both of these solutions created a more spacious feel the the room.
Marla and Daniel decided to “Change the Way They Live” by transforming their kitchen. Removing the old yellow painted cabinets, brown floral tile countertops and backsplash, cramped corner cabinet area and replacing with all new cabinets, counters, backsplash, flooring and fixtures, chosen together with their personal style and character made this kitchen into a gorgeous space to live the way they wanted and to enjoy their passion for cooking and hosting. Within the first day of our finish they sent us a text saying they spent the day “cooking up a storm”. It’s been a privilege to make their dream kitchen a reality. Thank you for choosing us!
Chris, Mitzi, and the Gordon T. Jacob crew completed our kitchen remodel in just about 3 weeks. The redesign has greatly improved the functionality of both our kitchen and dining area. We love the design choices and appreciate the extra time Mitzi took with us to make sure we got everything just right. The kitchen is now the heart of our new home and we love cooking in the newly beautified space.
