Craftsman Home in North Tacoma

Anne Marie moved into the area from the East Coast and purchased a 1924 Craftsman home in North Tacoma. She wanted to renovate the home into its original charm with a few updates as well.

In our first conversations about her project, she described her vision for her home. The words she used to express her desires were safe, bright, warm and cozy. She wanted to transform this house she bought into her home. She wanted to keep the look and feel of the 1920’s and restore the bathroom and kitchen.

To keep the original charm, we restored the original doors and millwork, then sanded and stained the original hardwoods. To make the house bright, we removed the popcorn ceilings and changed the paint colors to white ceilings and gray walls. We also added beautiful vintage lighting throughout the house.

To create a warm and cozy feel, we added a new gas insert in the fireplace and updated the windows to vinyl. Replacing the windows helped with warmth as well as lessening the sound of passing traffic, creating a more quiet space.

In the kitchen we removed large, oak cabinets that did not represent the 1920’s look she desired. She wanted a more spacious feel, less upper cabinets and a larger pantry cabinet. We completely transformed the kitchen with new cabinets, counters and appliances. We installed white cabinets, white marble like quartz and lovely vintage looking tile backsplash up the wall behind the stove.

The bathroom in the house had been set up for handicap use and had lost its reflection of the 1920’s so we restored it back to the proper vintage feel with a stand-alone claw foot tub and vintage sink, marble floor tiles and added a seamless glass shower with vintage tile up the walls.

To help her feel safe, we remodeled the garage by installing a garage door with an opener and keyless locks on both the garage and back door to improve her ease of entry and security.

At the finish of this beautiful renovation, we gained a friend we value and in her words, “turned a house into a home!”

The sweetest little Craftsman home in the north end of Tacoma was mine, but in need of an update. As a new resident, I didn’t know where to turn. I trusted my realtor completely, so, when he recommended Gordon T. Jacob, I called right away.

I don’t have the skills to make architectural choices or to see the potential of the space. Chris and Mitzi walked into my home and I relaxed. They understood what it needed and what I wanted. They listen. Our working relationship was as uplifting as a breath of fresh air and just as easy. Chris and Mitzi inspired me to create my dream home.

Every member of the team and crew made me comfortable. You know how important it is to have people in your home that respect you and your property. Chris and Mitzi have joy in their work and their team brings good energy to the jobsite.

Communication was effortless. Chris let me know what to expect for each week ahead. When I had a question, no matter how general or how trivial, Chris responded immediately. He had a good sense for when to call to sort out details.

I recommend Gordon T. Jacob highly. You deserve to make a house into your home. I can’t wait for my next project with Gordon T. Jacob.
