M Street’s Modern Farmhouse

M Street’s Modern Farmhouse

This M Street’s Modern Farmhouse was not always modern. It was a 100 year old Classic Tacoma Craftsman with a beautiful covered front porch and stunning leaded glass in the front bay windows. The front door was original but had been painted over several times. It was in desperate need to be brought back to its original glory. The inside of the home had some original book shelves and posts with bench seating that were classic, and when refinished would be glorious! Outside of that, we changed almost everything. The house had not been updated EVER. It was about to be gutted to the studs.

The house was about 900 square feet with an unfinished attic and basement. We wanted to add modern elements to the home but also square footage so a young family could be comfortable here and raise their family here. We decided to re-design the floor plan to include a new stairwell. We completely re-framed a new upstairs with 8 ft ceilings which included 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and a laundry room. In the basement, we added a mechanical room, play room and entertainment room ready for family movie nights!

On the main floor, we added all new beautiful flooring and added boxed beams on the ceiling to go with the original look of the house. We changed the location of the kitchen making it open to the rest of the main floor space, so the whole family could be included while someone was cooking dinner. All new millwork and a new bathroom were added, and the bookshelves and the bench seating were restored. The walls of this home were painted with Sherwin Williams Repose Gray throughout for a warm and calming feel.

When we finished, we turned the 900 square foot home into over 2400 sq ft with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms with plenty of room for the whole family!
