A Growing Family

A Growing Family

In this North Tacoma home, built in the 70’s, we were brought in to completely renovate the kitchen and dining areas and create a flow that allowed for our clients growing family. The rest of the home had been beautifully updated, while the kitchen remained closed off by a peninsula divider and a built in eating area. The cabinetry was dark, dreary and lacking functionality. On the window side of the kitchen orientation, the wall was bumped out toward the front elevation of the house which created 45 degree angles on the cabinet line and each end was unused and wasted.

In order to create their dream kitchen, we opened the entrance from the front of the house up to be taller and wider. We then removed the peninsula and dining area as well as opening the partial wall between the kitchen and dining room area. With the new wide open area we were able to add a perfectly fitted island in the kitchen to offer seating for their children as well as extra storage.

In those 45 degree angled walls we custom built and stained wood shelved which utilized the corner spaces for display storage. We matched these beautiful corner shelves with floating shelves on the end of the kitchen for a coffee bar and wine bar. The flow between those two gorgeous wood elements with the bright Khaki Gray cabinets and white with gray vein quartz countertop really made this kitchen come to life. Previously it was dark and dreary, now it has become inviting and classy.

Another unique element of the design here was we continued the backsplash under the cabinets in the same quartz our clients chose for the countertop eliminating tile lines and grout. It is stunning. Coupled with their high end Cafe’ appliances, it is perfect.

Lighting is always quite the decision with hundreds of options. Our clients chose beautiful, dramatic lights that tied in the copper and gold colors of the cafe appliances. Lastly, they selected cabinet hardware in similar finish.

Just in time for the arrival of a new family member, this dream kitchen became a reality. We had a wonderful time working with our clients and we are grateful they chose us to help them “change the way they live” in their home!

“Gordon T. Jacob did a phenomenal job on our kitchen remodel. Chris and Mitzi worked with us to bring our vision to reality. We went from a late 70s style closed off kitchen with Brady Bunch vibes to a modern showpiece. His team is professional, courteous and extremely talented including his direct employees (shoutout to Rene) and all the subs that he works with. I would highly recommend using Chris and his team at Gordon T. Jacob for a remodel or other construction projects. I think the results speak for themselves in the photos attached.”
