Aging in Place: A Puyallup Home Remodel

Aging in Place: A Puyallup Home Remodel

Our clients have lived in this home for several decades and have no plans to leave it anytime soon. That’s why they hired us—to make it aging-friendly so they can continue enjoying the home they love for years to come.

Their bedroom was originally on the second floor of their beloved home. But after watching their own parents navigate the challenges of aging, they began to consider what aging well would look like for themselves. They realized that stairs wouldn’t be a long-term option, so they decided it was time to create a primary bedroom on the main floor.

We also designed a spacious, ADA-friendly bathroom to accommodate any future needs. It features a large walk-in shower with a built-in handle and bench for safety and comfort.

Next, we built out a large flex space that can serve as a walk-in closet, storage area, or extra sleeping quarters. On the other side of the bedroom wall, we framed in a home office and an additional closet.

This wonderful family is thrilled with how their new living space turned out and feels peace of mind knowing they’ll be well cared for in the years ahead. They also plan to have family move into the larger part of the home in the future to enjoy multigenerational living together!

Client Testimony

“When we had our home built 40+ years ago, we were young and figured that a 2 story house would fit our needs for the rest of our lives. Fast forward to a few years ago and after watching the physical decline of our parents, we decided that remodeling our home to accommodate our aging in place plans was just what we needed. Enter Gordon T Jacob. I had drafted a plan for an addition on our first floor that would add a new primary bedroom with en suite bath and walk in closet. The one existing downstairs bedroom would be repurposed as an office with a new laundry room to be added.
I contacted Gordon T Jacob with my design and received a very prompt reply. A plan for the project was developed and we elected to move forward. Once the plans and permits were in place, construction moved forward and was completed as planned and projected.

Chris and Mitzi have been great to work with. Mitzi’s design and layout of the new bathroom turned out beautifully, making for a stunning space. Christopher was the superintendent on the project and he really tied it all together, coordinating all of the subcontractors so that the project was completed on time as projected.
Today the house looks as if it had always been designed this way and we are now enjoying our new space. The vision is now a reality.
We are very pleased with the final product and would highly recommend Gordon T Jacob for your future project.”
