Contemporary Ensuite

Contemporary Ensuite

This remodel was quite unique in many ways. Our clients had a very large ensuite with a private deck off the back. When they purchased their beautiful Puyallup Rim view home, the primary bedroom and bathroom were so unimpressive, the listing had not even included photos. The bathroom had a pink tile shower next to a tall pink built-in bathtub, a very long vanity with windows rather than mirrors in front of it and a cramped closet. The room had an outdated 80’s style with unusual sky windows and built in cabinets.

While collaborating with our clients, we discovered several design features they hoped to achieve during remodel. They gave us their non-negotiables and let us run with the design. The finish is some of our most favorite work!

To begin with, we re-designed the bathroom to have a wet room enclosure with a free standing modern-geometric shaped tub inside a heavy glass enclosed area with an open shower that includes a rain head, hand held shower head with a slide bar and a beautiful bench and niche. We added sconce lights in the tub area for ambiance and the entire wet room area is tiled with a black stone to give a natural element to compliment the overhead skylight windows that line the room.

Next, our client wanted a space in her ensuite to create her artwork. She wanted to have us design an area that could have counter space, drawers for storage and a wall to hang her creations. We made a cork board wall with sconce lighting to achieve this set above lower cabinet drawer banks and a 3cm pental quartz countertop.

Another unique request was to include a bar area in the room to enjoy coffee in the mornings and a cocktail at sunset. The ensuite has access to a private deck with a gigantic view of Mount Rainier, creating a private get away. They liked bright colors and unusual designs, but asked us to keep their playfulness to a reasonable level for resale reasons. In order to honor their love of color we chose a beautiful deep orange tile for the bar area which included a sink and a mini fridge for drinks. We created floating shelves that they will use for displaying their collection of tequila bottles on the bar side and on the storage side will display her heirloom collection of antique glass that needed a place of honor.

Since they have three large shedding dogs, the floors were important to them as well. They wanted something that felt and appeared like concrete. The cost and the complication of concrete on the top floor of their home led us to seek out 30×30 tile squares that accomplished this look and created a durable and easy to clean floor throughout the entire ensuite.

This was an exciting project, the transformation is extraordinary and we loved working with our clients to change the way they live in their home.
