Heirloom House
Heidi and Alan moved back into the home where Heidi grew up and where they had spent the last 30 years cultivating their family. Needless to say, the home holds memories from their life together as well as her family legacy. Four generations have enjoyed this home and rather than buy something new, they wanted to renovate the home and continue to enjoy the history there.
For their remodel, our scope of work included a completely new kitchen, dining, and family room. We started the remodel at their front door and ended it at their closed off bedroom wing of the house (to be done at a future date) to allow them to live in the home while we worked and keep the budget reasonable.
We redesigned the kitchen and dining layout to eliminate an odd triangular detached corner that held the stovetop and acted as a divider between the rooms. We lifted the ceiling across the kitchen and stole space from a closet that was originally at the end of the galley style layout and created a U shaped kitchen layout installing the stove and hood where the closet had been. Opening the kitchen up allowed us to extend the run and then add a long island with seating.
The laundry and powder bathroom, located in a hallway from the garage entrance, were updated and we pulled additional footage into the kitchen by removing a long run of closets that had been in that walkway, as well.
We replaced all of their various floor types into a beautiful, continuous hardwood. While we removed one of the half walls dividing the kitchen from the step down dining room, we kept the one that faced the entryway to divide the living room and we kept the original wood grip on that wall, touching the stain up to look new.
We encouraged Heidi and Alan to keep the original orange brick fireplace since the brick was a reflection of the era of the home. We put in a luxurious carpet, with a chevron pattern, in that room to create a warm and cozy room to let the grandkids play when they visit. A gorgeous accent wall with Sherwin Williams, “Evergreen Fog” finished this room perfectly.
A few years back they had redone their formal living room fireplace and decided to keep what they selected back then. We added a mid mod hanging light fixture in front to break up the very tall stone wall.
They kept their windows and doors to stay on budget so we painted the wrap around the windows to match the new millwork. Our team painted the interior with a white to brighten everything up from the original taupe and brown walls.
Keeping with the mid mod origins, we made every effort to refresh this wonderful family home into a spacious, new design.
